Although glass appears fragile and easily breakable, it’s actually quite tricky to shape and cut because of its brittleness. To work with it successfully, you need the right tools.
Don’t panic — a diamond cutter is not essential for glass cutting. With a few supplies and some determination, successful glass cutting can be achieved! All that is needed is an object of sharpness and the ability to hang in there – it requires a little bit of patience.
Here’s What Must be Done:
As the first step, press a sharp knife or a glass cutter against the glass, ensuring you keep the same amount of pressure while you score it.
For the newly scored glass to be broken, it needs to be braced between the hands. With steady force applied on either side of the line, it should break apart in a neat fashion following the score.
If you encounter difficulty in breaking the glass along the score line, no need to fear – just grab a pair of glass breaking pliers. Holding each handle securely, simply apply pressure until the glass separates in a neat and orderly fashion.
Following the breaking, the jagged glass edges must be smoothened. A glass file or a scrap of sandpaper can be applied to this purpose.
In no time, you’ll be slicing through glass like a seasoned expert. With some training and practice, you’ll have it all figured out!
