Those who specialize in the art of transforming raw diamonds into shining gems are known by two names: diamond cutters and lapidaries. With their expertise and perfectly honed craftsmanship, diamond cutters are able to take a drab, unrefined diamond and convert it into a gleaming and exquisite treasure.

To craft a diamond into its final form, a cutter turns to a variety of different tools. Most commonly, a saw is used to follow the lines predetermined on paper that indicate the desired shape. With steady hands, the skilled diamond cutter navigates the stone along these clearly marked paths to produce the intended result.
Having been shaped into its desired form, the diamond is now set to receive its permanent home in a setting. To this end, the cutter may choose to affix the gemstone in a setting himself, or send it off to a professional jeweler.
