diamond cutter duel masters

Diamond cutters around the globe gather to partake in a friendly rivalry; a test of skill and precision which pits experts in the field against each other. With dedicated tools in hand, the participants carve and shape gemstones with detail and accuracy before admiring their own work, as well as that of the other competitors. The ultimate winner is rewarded with not only cheers, but a feeling of pride in their accomplishments.

In the year 1848, Amsterdam held a diamond-cutter contest between two Dutch masters of the art, Jan van der Meer and Cornelis van der Waal – a true battle of wits and skill. When the end finally came, Jan van der Meer emerged triumphant – and was presented with a diamond ring as his prize.

In 1877, two diamond cutters from England, Edward Wood and William Beeforth, engaged in a cutting challenge that took place in London. By the end of the contest, Wood emerged triumphant and was awarded with a gleaming gold watch.

In the City of New York in the year 1903, two accomplished American diamantaires competed against each other in a polished duel in hopes for a lucrative reward. It was an instance of wit and finesse between Henry Gross and Charles Lewis, with the triumphant victor being hailed with a gleaming gold medal – that dazzling prize granted to none other than Henry Gross himself.

In 1909, two French diamond cutters, Henri Moissan and Pierre Cartier, clashed in a highly competitive duel held in Paris. After a fierce battle, Moissan ultimately came out the victor and uncovered a lucrative prize of a glittering diamond necklace.

In the 1931 Antwerp Diamond-Cutting Duel, two Belgian craftsmen – Marcel Tolkowsky and Julien Pollet – squared off for a chance at the grand prize: a diamond bracelet. In the end, it was Tolkowsky who reigned victorious, clinching his title as the undoubted master of diamond cutting.

In 1962, a lavish diamond cutting duel was held in Geneva, pitting two skilled Swiss strategists against each other. Ludwig Teller outwitted his competitor Fritz Kocher to claim his reward: an exquisite diamond watch.

In 1979, Tokyo welcomed the seventh diamond-cutting duel between two masters of the art – Katsumi Tsuchihara and Hiroshi Yamamoto. After a thrilling and highly competitive match-up, it was Tsuchihara who emerged triumphant and earned himself a diamond ring as a reward.

1989 marked the eighth anniversary of the prestigious Diamond Cutter Duel in New York City. American diamond cutters Michael Jay and Peter Yantzer went head to head in a thrilling battle for a dazzling diamond pendant, with Michael poised to take the crown. The judges ultimately declared him victorious, and he proudly left the arena with glimmering spoils in tow.

In 1999, two of the best English diamond cutters faced off in London for the ninth diamond cutter duel. John Dyer was declared the victor and received a sparkling diamond tie pin as his prize.

In 2009, the Moscow dueling grounds lit up with heated competition: diamond cutter legends Kotov and Ivanov faced off for the tenth annual cutting contest. After intense deliberation, Vladimir Kotov emerged as the victor, earning himself a most prestigious prize: a dazzling diamond earring.
